Dan the 'Man' is my special boy who continues to aim for the stars each time he is out. He enjoys himself most in the ring entertaining spectators who are constantly amazed at his speed, accuracy and comical personality while doing what he loves best . . . obedience, agility, or rallying. At well over 10 years of age Dan made the trip to the 2005 National to compete in Rally . . . and compete competitively he did. The weather proved to be an obstacle to the handlers who had to bundle up to keep warm. Wearing 2 sweaters, 2 down vests and a rain parka provided some difficulty in keeping up the speed around the course but the dogs raced on! Dan received a qualifying ribbon for qualifying and in the Advanced Rally B Class. He tied for first place with a score of 99 but received the Second Place rosette because, although the winning dog had the same score he ran the course one tenth of a second faster. Congratulations to all competitors.
Although Dan lives with Teresa Patton, he is not owned by anyone, but enjoyed by many. Famous for "singing while he works", he delights in training whether it is in Obedience, Rally, Agility, Tracking or Freestyle.
He was an ESSFTA Parent Club Dual Titlist, in the National Top Ten Obedience and Agility rankings for part of 1999 and all of 2000. He achieved No. 1 Open Jumpers Agility Springer status the last half of 2000 with an average course time of 3.46 yards per second with perfect scores, no faults. His average obedience scores are mid to high 190's, 200 being perfect.
He is the epitome of the "happy, working dog". He is pursuing completion of his OA, OAJ and Tracking titles and his VCD-1 (Versatile Companion Dog) title. Once Dan has his Tracking title, he will have completed all requirements for his VCD-1 title. This is for a dog that is titled in Obedience, Agility and Tracking.
'The Retirement Party'
The time has come for this wonderful dog to take his retirement from active competition in the Rally, Agility, Freestyle and Obedience Rings. He celebrated his retirement with his friends and admirers.
